Online Video Pioneer Brightcove Relocating to SkySong

SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center, will welcome a prominent new tenant to its newest office building.

Brightcove, a pioneering force in the world of online video, signed a lease to occupy 13,000 square feet of the first floor of SkySong 4.

The company, relocating from Tempe, has nearly 5,000 customers in 70 countries is a leading provider of cloud services for video. It company offers a full suite of products and services that reduce the cost and complexity associated with publishing, distributing, measuring and monetizing video across devices.

“We are very fortunate to have Brightcove become part of the SkySong community,” said Sharon Harper, President & CEO of Plaza Companies. “They are truly pioneers in publishing video and they will fit right in with the other innovative technology companies that are already on the campus.”

Brightcove’s presence at SkySong 4 helps accelerate the leasing momentum for the newest building at SkySong, which is scheduled to open later this fall. The 145,000 square foot building is the fourth office building to open at SkySong, with the other three near 100 percent occupancy.

Sethuraman Panchanathan, executive vice president of Knowledge Enterprise Development and chief research and innovation officer at Arizona State University, said that Brightcove is an ideal fit for the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of SkySong.

New 6,500-Square-Foot Co-Working Space – 1951@SkySong – To Open At SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center

A new co-working space will be unveiled on October 19 at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center and will feature some incredible pieces of old-time Americana.

The space is located on the ground floor in SkySong 1, and is named 1951@SkySong for the year Scottsdale was incorporated. The space is a next step in ASUs efforts to support the regions entrepreneurial enterprise. Community startups can purchase tiered memberships with access to varying levels of space, technology, training and mentoring from ASU faculty and the universitys Entrepreneurship + Innovation experts.

In honor of the year 1951 the space will be adorned with Americana on loan from the collection of Scottsdale real estate entrepreneur Michael Pollack.

Pollack, a renowned collector of rare memorabilia, is president and founder of Michael A. Pollack Real Estate Investments. From his sought-after Frank Polk Slot Machine collection to owning the largest 3D Advertising Museum in the world to a beautiful collection of rare Baranger displays, Pollack owns some of the biggest collections around the globe. On display at the 1951@SkySong co-working space will be 28 pieces of Pollacks Americana collection, from classic jukeboxes to old gas pumps to neon signs from the 1950s era.

The dcor may hint of yesteryear but the vibe and amenities are as modern as they come, with high-speed wifi, teleconferencing technology for collaborations, direct connections to Silicon Valley companies, and data experts to help build company profiles. The stimulating vibe will reflect that of SkySong with collaboration, openness and community among the prevailing qualities. Members can sit at designated desk spaces, on couches, or on modular furniture that can be re-arranged to meet team needs. The 6,500-square-foot space also includes multiple meeting rooms, lounge space and recreational features. Members can use the conference rooms for staff or client meetings.

SkySong Projected to Make Major Economic Impact on Scottsdale and Valley of the Sun Over the Next 30 Years

SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center is projected to generate more than $32 billion in economic output and more than 10,000 new jobs across the Valley of the Sun over the next 30 years, according to new analysis performed by the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.

The analysis examines the impact of 11 SkySong buildings and a restaurant/retail component on site. SkySong buildings 1-3 are complete and SkySong 4 completion is expected before the end of the year. The restaurant/retail building is expected to be completed in 2017, and SkySong 5 and 6 are expected to be completed in 2018. SkySong buildings 7-11 are expected to be completed by 2022.

Expansion by existing tenants and new leases have boosted occupancy in the first three buildings to more than 95 percent capacity. More than 1,500 employees are now on site working for the more than 50 companies housed at SkySong and the ASU SkySong incubator.

SkySong 4 Construction Team To Celebrate “Topping Out” on Thursday, March 31

SkySong 4 is closing in on completion, with akey construction milestone being marked in a ceremony tomorrow.

SkySong 4 is topped out, meaning the structural steel in the construction building has reached the buildings final height.

The SkySong 4 construction team will celebrate the milestone at a Topping Out Party, to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31 at the front of the building facing SkySong Boulevard and Scottsdale Road.

The construction of SkySong 4 has gone extremely smoothly during the winter and spring months, and the topping out comes after just 4 1/2 months of construction. The building is scheduled to open in the summer or fall of 2016.

SkySong 4 will continue the tradition of dynamic design, green construction and innovative features the project as a whole has become known for, said Sharon Harper, President & CEO of Plaza Companies, the master developer of the project. We are very pleased with the work done by DPR Construction and its subcontractors in creating a new building that will further enhance the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation at SkySong.

LearnVest Expands its Presence at SkySong Campus

LearnVest, an award-winning financial planning company that provides fee-based financial advisory services, is yet another company expanding its presence at SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center.

The company, which chose SkySong in 2014 as its first satellite location outside of its New York headquarters, is occupying a larger space in the SkySong 2 building, expanding from about 5,000 square feet to almost 8,500 square feet.

Since launching in 2009, LearnVest has helped hundreds of thousands of people across the country get financially secure and save for their most important goals. Since its launch, LearnVest has raised nearly $75 million in venture-financing, and in 2015, LearnVest was acquired by Northwestern Mutual. LearnVest has been awarded numerous accolades, including being named as one of Time’s “50 Best Websites,” Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Companies,” and three years running Best of Show awards at FinovateFall 2011, 2012 and 2013.

LearnVest now has over 50 employees on the SkySong campus. Overall, SkySong is home to more than 1,500 jobs.

Scottsdale named one of best places to launch a startup in the U.S.

Scottsdale has been named as one of the best cities to launch a startup, outside of Silicon Valley and New York.

DataFox, a San Francisco-based deal-sourcing and research platform, ranked Scottsdale eighth on their list after crunching the numbers on over 12,000 U.S.-based, pre-Series A companies in its database to find the best cities to found a startup.

Scottsdale was recognized for its university partnerships between Arizona State University and the city of Scottsdale.

“Scottsdale fosters deep connections between entrepreneurs, students and community members: for example, SkySong, the live-work center for resources and capital for entrepreneurs, is the result of a collaboration between the city and university,” DataFox said in its ranking explanation. “And according to Hoovers, the city boasts over 13,000 companies founded since 2010 that had at least $5 million in annual revenue.”

SkySong Farmer’s Market to Return January 13

There’s more good news for SkySong tenants and anyone who likes locally produced food, artworks and crafts: the SkySong Farmer’s Market is returning on January 13, 2016 for a 20-week run that ends on May 25. Locally made jams, jellies, salsa, fresh baked breads, natural pork, beef and fish, fresh local and seasonal produce as well as a selection of local artwork, crafts will be available. The Farmer’s Markets will be held in the late afternoon under the SkySong shade structure. More information coming soon!

Ollie The Trolley Now Providing Lunchtime Rides to Old Town Scottsdale

Tenants at SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center will be connected to Old Town Scottsdale like never before.

The SkySong campus, located on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road & McDowell Road in Scottsdale, has begun receiving daily shuttle service from 11am-2pm via Ollie the Trolley to Old Town. The trolley picks up tenants under the campus Shade Structure. Tenants can take advantage of the great restaurants in the downtown space and browse art galleries and shops without worrying about parking.

“We want to continue to make SkySong not just an economic development project and an innovation center, but a critical part of the community as well,” said Sharon Harper, President & CEO of Plaza Companies, the master developer of the project. “This is a great opportunity for our tenants to feel a sense of community and to also invite people from throughout Scottsdale to see what SkySong is becoming.”

Construction Begins on 4th SkySong Office Building

A new building is set to rise at SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. It’s a necessity to keep up with market demand— the other three office buildings are now almost full with some of the Valley’s most exciting businesses.

Construction on SkySong 4 began last week and is expected to be completed in about a year. Like SkySong 3, which opened in January, SkySong 4 will be a 145,000-square-foot structure. SkySong is located on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road & McDowell Road in Scottsdale.

Construction is beginning as SkySong 1, 2 and 3 are all approaching full occupancy, and with leasing interest remaining brisk, the project team is confident SkySong 4 will be close to capacity as well by the time its doors open.
